The grant was awarded through the MCACA peer review process and was one of 559 applications to compete for MCACA fiscal year 2017 funding.

Organizations receiving a MCACA grant award are required to match those funds with other public and private dollars. Local support of the project included matching funds from the Cook Family Foundation.  The Owosso Community Players also receives significant volunteer support from the community.

Owosso Community Players Executive Director Kathy Brooks and Artistic Director Garrett Bradley attended the conference held in Rochester, MN.  “We believe that having our staff exposed to theatrical experiences outside of our community adds depth to our programming.  In turn, that affects and enriches our community” said Michael Ash, OCP’s Board President.  The pair attended educational workshops, including theatre management and production based sessions.  Bradley was the first place winner of the coveted Musical Theater International (MTI) Challenge.  For his expertise, he was awarded a certificate for a Free Standard Rental, a $1,000 value.

The MCACA peer review process allows for each grant application to be competitively considered by a panel of in-state and out-of-state arts and culture professionals. This ensures the taxpayers, who support this project through legislative appropriations, and all other visitors or residents in Michigan will have access to the highest quality arts and cultural experiences.
