The Pulse Of The Theatre!
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Owosso Players Volunteer!
The pulse of the theater are the volunteers! Without the positive and
creative energy that the volunteers bring to the theater - where would
it be today?
From ushers to actors, technicians to costume sewers, carpenters to coat
check, tour guides to stage crews, each volunteer plays a critical role
in raising the curtain for each performance. The quality of the
productions at The Lebowsky Center are a direct result of the volunteer
talent. |
Areas To Volunteer
On Stage
- Actors - Anyone who ever wanted to act, from the novice
to the most seasoned actor, is welcome to audition for the
productions. From Musicals, Comedies, to Children's productions
there is something for everyone.
Auditions dates and times are available in the Argus Press or by
visiting our season schedule page for audition information. Those
planning to audition should read the helpful suggestions listed
here.
Technical
- Set Construction/Painting - Volunteers help build, cover,
repair, paint and tear down sets. It is helpful for volunteers in
this area to have some construction or painting background. Daytime
and night hours are often available.
- Lighting/Sound - Training will be provided. Usually work
every night or trade with others for every other night for the whole
run of the performance. Must also be available for tech week - which
is the week before the show opens. Be able to follow a script and be
very committed. This is a highly responsible volunteer position.
- Props - This position is part of the stage crew.
Properties are all of the set dressings and small articles used in a
production. Time commitment is the full run of the show plus tech
week and some rehearsals.
- Costumes - Volunteers are instrumental in building
costumes as well as putting finishing touches on projects. Time
requirement varies with each show but hours are flexible with your
schedule.
- Stagehands/Running Crew - Ever wonder how all the magic
happens during the show? Well, it's the stagehands job to make
everything happen from special effects to changing the set from one
scene to another. Time commitment is full run of the show plus tech
week. Volunteers can work every night of a production or trade
shifts with another volunteer. This is a highly responsible
volunteer position.
Audience Services
- Ushers - Greet the public, take tickets, help patrons
find their seats, and hand out programs. Ushers are friendly and
helpful. This is a great way to get started and meet a lot of
people. We use 10 ushers for each show. Arrival time is 45 minutes
before performance.
- Doorpersons - Act as the host/hostess of the theatre by
being in the lobby and taking tickets for the downstairs patrons.
They answer any questions that come up and arrive to volunteer 45
minutes prior to start of performance.
Other Areas
- Maintenance - Volunteers needed to assist our Building
Maintenance personnel. General handyman, cleaning and upkeep of the
theatre. Needed one or two days a week. Daytime hours.
- Hospitality - Volunteers needed to assist board members
with special events such as cast parties and technical lunches. On
call on an as-needed basis.
- Bookholders and Assistant Directors
- Work very closely
with the Director of the show and must come to every rehearsal.
Bookholders watch the script and blocking and take notes for the
Director. Assistant Director works side by side with the Director
and needs to have previous acting or directing experience.
