Oklahoma!

David Kindig & John Morovitz were the most active volunteers in 1985.

This show was directed by Barb Pierson so she could cast her daughter Bethanne Pierson in the lead as Laurey. Audiences were treated to a youthful cast of virtual OCP unknowns and the show turned out to be very energetic and of high quality. Making his musical debut was Owosso actor Joe Albright, who caught the theater bug in the Owosso Players and decided to major in theater at Ohio State and then became a professional actor, having originated the role of Remnar Soady in Escanaba in the Moonlight in Detroit and Chelsea, and then in the movie of the same name. Mark Van Epps and Carl Knipe played in the pit orchestra as trombone and trumpet respectively. Knipe is a band director and he and Van Epps felt the tempo on the song "The Farmer and the Cowman Should Be Friends" was woefully slow as put out by conductor Ray Kindig (Knipe's father-in-law). They were sitting behind the drummer and would push the tempo each night by playing just a bit ahead of the beat until the drummer was pounding out the proper tempo, much to the chagrin of Kindig. This show was staged at the Owosso Middle School, which has about the worst stage in the county because an iron maiden (a metal piece to allow the ropes to be moved) blocks the entire stage left and the doors onto the stage are center rear of the stage. This leaves a director with either a very shallow stage, or entrances only from stage right past the light board through a narrow hall, or from the audience.
